The problem is configuring my Belkin Wireless router to this Wimax connection. I had gone through the other thread and tried to follow the instructions given for configuring the wireless router for D LINK, Linksys and Net Gear routers; but did not get any success. I gave the Dynamic IP address for the WAN connection and hard coded the DNS servers. I found four DNS servers when I gave Ipconfig/all for the connection. However, there was only provision to provide two in the router settings. I gave the first two and later on tried different permutations and combinations but to no avail.

I appreciate if anyone can help me in this regard.lso having a similar issue, I came from the US and got Reliance Wimax installed at my parent's house, I am not able to get the wireless router working. For some reason, reliance internet needs us to enter userid/pwd at www.reliancebroadband.co.in and then the internet works on a PC/laptop, but with this I am able to use only one PC at a time, I need PC and wireless router and possibly another laptop to be all on the internet at the same time. How do I get this in order? In the wireless router, the only place it prompts to enter a userid/pwd is when you select a PPoE account, that' didn't work. I selected Dynamic IP address option, but that doesn't have any user id/pwd option in the router.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.Reliance folks are not allowing sharing of the 'Wimax' connection. Pl. note that this applies only to Wimax connections. They allowed it initially and later stopped. And new development is that they are blocking even Linux boxes. I tried to use a Linux box as a Wifi router (I had a spare laptop which I converted into a Wifi router). Now the Linux box too doesn't get DHCP address.. I am planning to modify my Linux DHCP Client to fake that it is a Windows box. Will post you once I am done..

My apartment is in Whitefield, Bangalore. As Reliance has a tower near ITPL; I have not encountered any problems with the connection so far and the connection is very fast.

The problem is configuring my Belkin Wireless router to this Wimax connection. I had gone through the other thread and tried to follow the instructions given for configuring the wireless router for D LINK, Linksys and Net Gear routers; but did not get any success. I gave the Dynamic IP address for the WAN connection and hard coded the DNS servers. I found four DNS servers when I gave Ipconfig/all for the connection. However, there was only provision to provide two in the router settings. I gave the first two and later on tried different permutations and combinations but to no avail.

I appreciate if anyone can help me in this regard.lso having a similar issue, I came from the US and got Reliance Wimax installed at my parent's house, I am not able to get the wireless router working. For some reason, reliance internet needs us to enter userid/pwd at www.reliancebroadband.co.in and then the internet works on a PC/laptop, but with this I am able to use only one PC at a time, I need PC and wireless router and possibly another laptop to be all on the internet at the same time. How do I get this in order? In the wireless router, the only place it prompts to enter a userid/pwd is when you select a PPoE account, that' didn't work. I selected Dynamic IP address option, but that doesn't have any user id/pwd option in the router.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.Reliance folks are not allowing sharing of the 'Wimax' connection. Pl. note that this applies only to Wimax connections. They allowed it initially and later stopped. And new development is that they are blocking even Linux boxes. I tried to use a Linux box as a Wifi router (I had a spare laptop which I converted into a Wifi router). Now the Linux box too doesn't get DHCP address.. I am planning to modify my Linux DHCP Client to fake that it is a Windows box. Will post you once I am done..

In the meantime I begged my neighbor to open his BSNL wifi to me so that I won't lose my job.. You can't depend on Reliance connection for anything serious like connecting to your office VPN etc.. Their customer care told me that they provide internet connection to the consumers for 'entertainment purpose only'

Coming to the Login part, in the good old days - i.e. a few months ago - when they were allowing Wifi routers, you could login from any of the workstation behind your wifi router and that's sufficient. There is nothing like router authenticating as in PPPoE with Reliance Wimax setup..

The only reason to buy a cheap wireless router is that you simply cannot find a way to afford a better model. Even then you will find that the time and frustration this will cause you to be not worth that small price. Even if you have to scrimp and save to get a good model it is best o wait until you can purchase a more expensive model.

When it comes to wireless routers the old saying "you get what you pay for" rings truer than in most other cases. You can find routers for as low as 29$ on the Internet and some as high as 300$ . The best advice is to go for the middle ground.

If you are new to wireless routers you will need to know a bit about their function to make an informed decision on which model to buy. The wireless router is used to connect a network or PC to the Internet. This form of connection is the next level beyond cable.

They can function in either a wired local area network (LAN) or a WLAN (wireless only LAN), or a mixed network. Most wireless routers have the following features:

• LAN ports
• A WAN port this where all external destinations are accessed.
• Wireless antennae.
• Some wireless routers still include a cable modem or DSL

It is not always who makes the router that determines its functionality. If you look at the wireless routers that have made it to the worst lists in the past couple of years you will see them from companies such as

NetGear
Cisco
Apple
Belkin

The most ironic part of this is that these are the top names in the business. They have been known to sell cheap wireless routers that cause all types of connection problems when you are attempting to create a home network. It should rally be a simple act of plug and play, but these cheap wireless routers will give you such intermittent signals, sometimes you connect and then others you are left wondering what has gone wrong.

The problems with a cheap router will surface as soon as you attempt to plug it in. it will be difficult to get even one computer hooked up on cheap wireless router. This leaves the buyer thinking they must have done something wrong. If you did not forget to reset your DSL or cable modem then the problem is definitely not with you. You will have to reset the wireless router every time you start up the network.

Finally the only other option is to unplug and cold boot your system each time you want to use it. this is a lot of frustration and hassle. So you see it may not be the best thing for you, buying a 29.00 router, just to save a few coins. This can create a backlog for you especially if you work online. Don't be cheap buy a quality piece of equipment the first time around.

Question by Go Get What You're Worth: I need a wireless router from my laptop, my internet provider is a cable company though what kind do i need?
OK So I saw that there are cable wireless routers, then like networking or something like that which one will I need for my laptop, just any old wireless router I plan on purchasing a D-Link one from a friend does it matter what kind of service my computer has and does D-Link give free service?

A D-Link router should be fine with your cable ISP.
I would imagine you have a wireless card on your laptop.
You will not have any costs associated with D-Link - just the purchase price. Obviously, there will be costs for your monthly cable service but no added costs.
